Suzi Schaefers - Master Trainer - The Canine Psychology Center
Master dog trainer, Suzi Schaefers, has been a professional dog trainer/dog psychologist for over 23 years and specializes in canine aggression rehabilitation. Whether your dog is aggressive toward other dogs, strangers or even you, the Canine Psychology Center (CPC) can help you to 'reprogram' your dog.
All dogs, even aggressive dogs, should be given the chance to become balanced, stable and happy.
Formal dog training should be part of every dog's life, not just an aggressive or ill-mannered dog. The time to start formal training is when a puppy is 8 to 10 weeks of age, not when the adult dog is 2 or 5 years of age. Don't let your breeder or veterinarian tell you that your new pup should not be socialized until after 3 months of age due to vaccination reasons - it's just not true and can cause a myriad of problems.
There is a very critical socialization period in a puppy's life - from age 6 weeks to 16 weeks - if your pup is not already started in formal training by 16 weeks of age it will become more and more difficult for the animal to be receptive to new procedures and commands as it ages. By the time a pup is 6 months of age it is the equivalent of a human teenager and already has a lot of bad ideas and decisions popping into its head and has already begun habits to live by from you, your family, your friends and your other dogs.
CPC offers several dog training programs to meet the individual needs of your dog and your family. The best way to find out which program is right for you is to contact CPC and schedule a private evaluation lesson with your dog and your family.
When you bring a dog into your home it is your responsibility to make sure he/she is well mannered, under control and a safe dog around children, dogs, other animals and strangers. If you lack the dog training experience needed to train or rehabilitate your own dog, you shouldn't even try. Please, seek the help of a professional dog trainer like Suzi Schaefers, owner of the Canine Psychology Center in Pine, CO.
