If any of
you wish to act as a group class assistant, without your
dog, please
email me
with at least 24 hours notice ..... Thanks!
-
If any of you wish to bring friends,
family, neighbors or other dogs as distractions for
group classes, please don't hesitate to do so!
-
Unfortunately, it's not a guarantee that any Group Class
will be held, even if the website states that it will.
Meaning, I need to update the website about two hours
before class, so those who are coming from very long
distances will have a good idea what's going on and the
weather can change in a heartbeat. I apologize in
advance if you arrive to any Group Class and no one is
there!!!
-
The only
way to find out if any Group Class is going to be held
for sure is to call me (303-995-0132) before you
head out.
-
Please
remember to ALWAYS bring your proper
training collar with back up collar, your long leash,
your regular handling leash (nylon leashes should have
been replaced by leather or 'leather alternative' by
now) and some training treats for the 'come' command.
Also, always be prepared to switch dogs!
-
New
group class attendees: please re-read the list of
'group class rules' (below) before heading out for your
first group class.
-
Potential graduates: please re-read the list of
'criteria for graduation' (below) before you attempt to
test. Please test even if you think your dog may not be
ready to pass. You will find out what needs work and you
never know, you might just pass!
-
Graduation certificates will be handed out at group
classes only - they will NOT be send in the mail. You
can also
request a PDF file of your
certificate.
-
Graduates: The moment you graduate your 'lifetime
guarantee' kicks in - this means that as long as you do
not allow more than one year to elapse between lessons,
private or group, you will always be welcome to attend
random private and/or group lessons.
-
Remember to
ALWAYS check the group schedule RIGHT
BEFORE you head out for each class. You can also check

Group
lessons may be cancelled, changed or postponed at any
time, so please check back here or the home page often!
-
During the
warmer months there will be a week evening group class
held (every other week)
-
Summer AM
groups will gradually move to 9:00am, as it's just too
hot to end any later than 10:00am.
-
During the
warmer months Saturday afternoon group classes will be
moved to the week evening day/time.
-
During the
colder months group classes are normally held every
Saturday - one week in the morning, the next week in the
afternoon and so on.
-
Group
Classes are held in fair weather only. If it is actively
raining or snowing group will be canceled that day.
-
Please check this page often, as
group days and times are subject to change. An
email will be sent out for such changes, but no phone
calls will be made. (If you have not been receiving
newsletters and other updates from CPC you are probably
not on the mailing list and you need to be!
to get on the important mailing 'gang list.' Thanks!

possibility of computer viruses sent via email,
please do not change the subject line of emails,
otherwise your email will be deleted)
-
Remember to
ALWAYS check the group schedule RIGHT
BEFORE you head out for each class. You can also check
the home page without having to come to this page.

-
Clients are
not allowed to attend group lessons until they have
completed private lessons first (unless Suzi has given
you special admittance to utilize your dog as a
distraction for the other dogs in group class)
-
You and
your dog must be working well together as a team before
you will be invited into any group lessons. If you are
looking for a group class only, CPC is not the
training facility for you.
-
Group classes will continue to be
held at the usual location (Weaver
Hollow park in Morrison)
in fair weather only, as it seems to be a fairly neutral
location for most owners.
-
If
it is actively snowing/raining, or just too cold, there
will be no group class. Sorry for any inconvenience!
-
Visitors
(non-clients) are welcome at anytime, without
their dogs.
-
If less than 5 dogs show up for
any group, that group class will not be held and you
will be asked to leave!!! -
The purpose of group class
is gain off leash control of your dog in a VERY
distracting environment. Group
class simply won't happen at all if there are very few
attendees. 3 or 4 dogs just don't make for a distracting
enough environment for the rest of the dogs. So, please
come to as many group lessons as possible and get your
dog graduated in a timely fashion. The day you graduate
your 'lifetime guarantee' officially begin.
-
Question &
answer, private lesson scheduling and free nail trims
available after each group class.
-
Opportunity
to test for off-leash will be offered at each group. If
the trainer does not mention this at the beginning of
each group, please speak up if you wish to test for
off-leash!

'client of the day' can be seen by clicking onto the
Recent Graduates

page.

To

-
Your dog will see other dogs being given the same verbal
commands and hand signals as themselves.
-
You
will learn to listen to instructions while keeping an eye on
your dog; you will learn to 'multi-task'!
-
Group is a very controlled environment, where you can feel more
comfortable allowing your dog off-leash, or practicing
corrections for aggression and other difficult issues.
-
Group class is included with the Basic/Advanced Obedience
program, as well as the Board & Train program; there is no extra
charge for group class.
-
This is where you will graduate your chosen training program
with an off-leash test. (Actually, the leash will be dragging
behind the dog, unless you are using a tab leash and a remote
training collar.

-
Owners will arrive on
time to all groups, as lessons will begin and end promptly. Groups
are one hour in length.
-
Dogs will be kept
on leash at all times unless directed otherwise, or if you are
testing for off-leash. Even then, the leash is required to drag on
the ground or you need to use a 'tab' leash.

Owners will keep dogs
under definite control at all times. Proper training equipment
(choke/pinch collars and nylon or leather leads) are required at all
times. (Muzzles for very aggressive dogs may be required)
-
No retractable leashes
or Gentle Leader/Halti head collars will be allowed in CPC's group
classes! Those are for clients that prefer to restrain, instead of
train their dogs.
-
Owners will keep their
dogs away from other dogs/people (even dogs that are friends outside
of group) unless directed otherwise.
-
Owners will bring their
own training treats, if used. None will be provided, unless someone
is willing to share. (Don't use plastic bags, the dogs can hear
them)
-
Owners are not
required to call in advance to cancel group lessons, but owners will
attend as many groups as possible in an attempt to complete their
training program in a timely fashion. Lifetime guarantees will NOT
begin until AFTER graduation!
-
Children and other
family members in attendance are to stay seated or on the
'sidelines' at all times unless directed otherwise.
-
Owners will be issued a
certificate of graduation upon successful completion of an off lead
test. This does not mean that owners cannot attend groups after
graduation. This certificate will be brought to the next available
group class for you to pick up. If you do not wish to drive to pick
up your graduation certificate, you can
request
that your certificate be emailed via PDF file.
-
Group classes are held
at a public park, so please bring a 'doggie bag' and pick up after
your dog!
-
Remember to
ALWAYS check the group schedule RIGHT BEFORE you head out
for each class. You can also check the home page without having to
come to this page.
Thank
you very much for your understanding and cooperation,

-
Name
- Your
dog must look directly at you when you call its name, on the first
request, from a distance and without coming to you.
-
The Sit
- Your
dog must sit the first time you give the command, without correction
or repetition, from both a standing position and a down position.
-
The Down
- Your
dog must lie down the first time you give the command, without
correction or repetition, from both a standing position and a sit
position.
-
The Stay
-
Your dog must remain in position {both sit and down separately} for
at least two minutes, from a distance of at least 20 feet from you,
during major distractions. Stepping away from the dog with your
right foot first warrants another ‘hand command’ for stay.
-
The Recall
- Your
dog must return to you the first time you give the command, without
correction or repetition, from a distance of at least 20 feet from
you, through a group of dogs. Your dog must sit directly in front of
you, give direct eye contact and not move after you give the treat
until you offer another command.
-
The Heel
- Your
dog must heel at your left side, without a leash in your hand, as
you serpentine in and out of other dogs and owners. Your dog must
automatically sit when you come to a stop without a correction or
receiving the sit command. Stepping away from the dog with your left
foot first warrants the ‘hand command’ for heel.
-
The Return to Heel
- Your
dog must perform your chosen ‘return to heel’ command, {swing or
heel/finish/return} the first time you give the command, without
correction or repetition.
