Why does CPC teach the 'Wolf Pack Theory'?
First things first - if you want to change your dog's unwanted behavior, you must be willing to change your own behavior first - there is no way around this fact. If you are not ready for a possible change within yourself, you are probably not yet be ready to start a rehabilitation, behavior modification or obedience program with your dog.
Remember, even if you choose to not train your dog, she will learn habits and behaviors to live by from you and your family. Knowing the basics of dog psychology provides you with the necessary communication skills needed to teach your dog to develop habits and manners for a healthy, happy and stress-free life at home. Teaching your dog new commands and/or behaviors will then be straight forward and trouble free. EVERY DOG IS A PRODUCT OF ITS ENVIRONMENT!
There is a big difference between dog psychology and dog training. Your dog will not be receptive to training or new procedures until she views you as her pack leader and this can only happen with dog psychology (the wolf pack theory). At CPC you will learn both in the proper order.
Your dog may love you, but your dog may not respect you at all and may not trust your judgment. This common misunderstanding can be detrimental to your dog's safety. The wolf pack theory teaches you to gain your dog's complete respect and trust.
CPC specializes in canine behavioral psychology and is in the business of teaching humans to think like a dog, so you can learn to earn your dog’s respect. Unfortunately, we can't just assume that our dogs will respect or trust us just because they are 'our' dogs. Your dog will not automatically respect or trust you just because you love him.
Most dogs, whether a Chihuahua or a Great Dane, are still genetically 99% Gray wolf and still think like a wolf in a pack. Only the 1% makes up the difference between the wolf, the Chihuahua and the Great Dane. CPC utilizes a working knowledge of this important scientific fact to aid clients in the art of effective communication with their dogs.
CPC will teach you to use proper body language, eye contact, tone of voice and the familiar calm, assertive energy that Cesar Millan speaks of so often. CPC will also teach you to utilize your dog's natural canine instincts to gain more of a mental vs. physical control of your dog.
Dog owners must become the 'alpha' leaders of their 'pack'. Young children are even able to be seen as pack leaders! CPC can show parents how to teach their kids how to properly interact with all dogs and prevent miscommunication and the risk of possible injury in the future.
Keep in mind that humans are the only ones who make mistakes when communicating with their dogs.... dogs already know how to speak to one another. Also, humans are the only creatures on the planet who give names of their own traits to animals, therefore causing serious miscommunication. Thinking of a dog as a little, furry human, or worse yet, a child, is called 'humanizing' a dog. Unfortunately, this fulfills only the selfish needs of the human not the true needs of canine mind. (A good example of 'humanizing' your dog would be if your dog is fearful and is hiding behind your leg and shaking, barking, growling, snapping, etc..... and you try to 'soothe' the dog by petting and telling the dog 'it's okay'..... you are only nurturing that fearful state of mind in your dog. You are basically telling your dog, 'good dog, be more fearful'.) CPC will help you to understand the concept of 'humanizing' your dog and how to prevent it in the future.
Remember, dogs don't follow sensitive, religious or lovingly tender leaders.... dogs follow authoritative leaders. A dog without a strong human leader will do what nature/instinct tells it to do. As Cesar Millan often says, in the animal kingdom there are only two positions; leader and follower. If you are not a leader to your dog, your dog will become the leader.... period.
There are many great ways to earn respect from your dog, as well as gain your dog's trust and CPC knows them all.
CPC will customize your dog's training to meet your family's specifications - Some people want their dog to be extremely people-friendly, some prefer their dog to be aloof with strangers, but not aggressive. Some owners want their dog to be well mannered without having to deal with the actual basic obedience commands, some owners want their dog reliably off-leash trained in any situation. Some people even want their dog to be very protective of the family and aggressive toward strangers. CPC will help you reach your goals with your dog no matter what your needs and desires may be.
